Stuff to get excited about

This year is shaping up to be pretty nice for movies, tv, etc. Here’s a rundown of everything I’m excited for.

We’ve got the new The Ghost in the Shell series, which came out in July. So far, the animation is beautiful, and hand drawn. The story follows a lot more closely to the original manga, which I like. There’s a good mix of humor and light heartedness, but then some really brutal parts to round it out. Loving it.

Then we’ve got Blade Runner 2099, which obviously takes place 50 years after the last movie. It looks really nice. Apparently the replicants are in control, and humans are treated as second-class citizens. All of the shots I’ve seen of this look beautiful.

And we also have Neuromancer coming out soon. I’ll be interested to see how it lives up to the “unfilmable” aspect of the book, but another one where the scenes look pretty stunning.

There’s even talks of a new Robocop tv series in the works, too! Anyone who knows me knows that I love Robocop, at least the original 80s/early 90s movies, cartoon, and tv series. /me sweeps the Joel Kinneman movie under the rug.

For movies, we’ve got Hot Spot which I think I’ll borrow the wikipedia premise, “Set in a near future society ruled by sentient A.I., a private eye investigates a murder case only to discover a rebel group capable of undermining the digital overlord. As the detective’s identity slowly unravels, his world enters a state of hypnotic meltdown.”

**Klara and the Sun**this is the newest film by Taika Watiti and is based off of a book series by Japanese-British author, Kazuo Ishiguro. “In a dystopian future where technological advances in genetic engineering have divided humans into strict, isolated social classes, an obsolete companion android named Klara tries to bond with Josie, a sick girl for whom she was purchased.”

There’s probably more that I’m forgetting, but I’ll keep this short for now. Next post will cover the upcoming games and other media.
